In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week the American Red Cross and the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management have partnered on a door knocking campaign to deliver smoke alarms and fire preparedness materials to the Barclay Greenmount East neighborhood. This neighborhood was selected because of the high number of home fires each year. The Baltimore City Fire Department and Baltimore City Police Department are also participating and will have at least one representative on each of the outreach teams.
 
The door knocking campaign is taking place today until 1 p.m., tomorrow, Thursday, October 9th, and Friday, October 10th, from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Media is invited to shadow one of the teams as they speak with residents and install smoke alarms and provide fire preparedness materials. A community resource fair is also being held on Saturday, October 11th from noon to 4:00 p.m.
